ARCHIVE / What is email obfuscation?
Email obfuscation is a technique used to hide email addresses from email crawlers. Essentially the issue is that spammers need email lists to which they can send spam emails. Email crawlers, otherwise referred to as spam crawlers, email spiders, spam bots and so on, are computer programs that access web sites and the pages they link to in order to seek out and capture email addresses. The generated list of emails might then be used directly and/or sold to a spammer. In order to discourage their email addresses from being used by spammers while still allowing human beings to contact them by email, many organizations make use of email obfuscators to hide addresses through encoding them and/or dynamically reinstatiating them.
