The term client, in the world of computers, refers to a piece of software that makes use of the services provided by a piece of software called a server. In reading this text, chances are that you are probably using a client right now by using a web browser. A web browser is thus a client to a web server. As another example, you may have heard of the term "email client" in reference to a software application designed to access an email server. In all cases, clients are designed specifically to access set types of services. So, there is not and, for all realistic scenarios, cannot be a universal client.
